"Have guitar,
will chop".
From country to
metal, Arabian-Farsi pop to Congolese/Euro-Reggae, I have recorded
and performed just about any kind of music you can imagine and most
of which you probably have never heard! Unless you own copies of or
have seen Black Iris, Nasrat Fareeq, or Kibwe.
What happened
was...
My father bought
me a cornet when I was five, I played it in a community band until
my front teeth fell out. I then was moved to a marching snare drum,
that was fun! I spent a few years fooling around with a Briscoe organ,
playing Silent Night and Christmas carols for family friends in the
middle of summer, my mother was so proud and it was all I knew.
I recieved a guitar
on my 13th birthday and played my first gig a year later. I was lucky
when I was younger to always work with people who were more experienced
and who had a great influence over my development as a musician...and
obviously had great patience and tolerance!
I was in a band
named Simon Kaos that Darcy and Andy joined back when we were teenagers,
it's incredible how things can come around full circle, the more things
change, the more they stay the same.
I'm really enjoying
what we have going on in Barcode, there is an ease in playing the
material that only comes from a certain quality of collective experiences,
and it makes me smile until my cheeks hurt...it's fun and that's why
I think we all do this in the first place.
I also perform
with the acoustic latin-jazz trio Kadabra as well.
